The 12-season personal color system divides the traditional four seasons—Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter—into three more specific subtypes each, allowing for more precise analysis.

For example, someone who fits within the Spring category but looks best in lighter, softer shades may also suit some light Summer colors.
This person would be classified as a Light Spring type.

Light Spring shares many characteristics with Light Summer, and both groups tend to look best in bright, soft, and light-toned colors.

Individuals who suit more yellow-based Spring colors fall into the True Spring category.
Those who suit deeper, richer yellow-based tones are classified as True Autumn.

On the other hand, those who look best in cool, elegant, and refreshing blue-based colors belong to the True Summer category, while those who suit stronger, more dynamic blue-based tones are considered True Winter.

Those who look great in vivid, vibrant colors, and can also wear the bright shades of the Winter palette, are classified as Bright Spring.
Conversely, individuals who can wear vivid Spring-like colors within the Winter palette are considered Bright Winter types.

These types often have a mix of both yellow-based and blue-based undertones, and are relatively less common among Japanese people.

Many individuals who have previously been told that they seem to suit colors from multiple seasons—and who found it difficult to fit into just one of the four basic seasons—often belong to categories like Soft Autumn or Soft Summer, which favor muted, gentle tones.

These soft, blended colors tend to suit many Japanese individuals, as it’s common to have a mixture of yellow and blue undertones.

Additionally, those who look good in deep, rich colors are classified as Dark Autumn or Dark Winter. These groups tend to suit deeper yet relatively vivid colors, and again, often exhibit a combination of both warm (yellow-based) and cool (blue-based) undertones.
